The Circus church

Circusplaneet bought the church of the social neighborhood Malem in Ghent on 6 February 2015. With this purchase, the circus organisation wants to add a new chapter to the rich history of Ghent’s circus. With the support of the Flemish Community (Cultural Investment Fund) and with the support of the European Union (European Regional Development Fund), Circusplaneet wants to transform the place into a ‘community circus’: a place where people work together with circus as the driving force, a place that encourages dialogue and encounters in the neighborhood, a place where young circus forces can train and create, a place where children and young people can learn in a non-formal way.

In order to make this renovation a success, Circusplaneet is working together with Plano Architects. They have converted our needs into a workable design that makes these dreams come true. The most important interventions are the realisation of a foyer with open doors for the neighbourhood and the design of a circus hall with the necessary facilities. There are also a few necessary interventions to transform the old church into a contemporary semi-public building.

In this way, the dream of Circusplaneet can continue to grow, under the church tower, but also far away from it.

Would you like to join us in supporting our dream? This can be done by making a donation to the Circusplaneet project account, managed by the Koning Boudewijnstichting (King Baudouin Foundation), on account BE10 0000 0000 0404 BIC: BPOTBEB1 of the Koning Boudewijnstijnstichting (King Baudouin Foundation) with structured communication 128/2977/00001.

The Koning Boudewijnstichting is participating in the project. Donations of €40 or more per year to the Foundation give rise to a tax reduction of 45% on the amount actually paid (Article 145/33 of the Income Tax Code).
